AI offers opportunities

In corporate real estate (CRE), data, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) are key in optimising workplaces and enhancing employee experiences. AI-technologies offer new opportunities, but they do not yet have an industry-wide adoption, despite significant benefits. CBRE's report, Effective Technology and AI, highlights some key trends and opportunities in this field.

Current situation

A significant 90% of CRE teams utilise software systems like Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) and Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) for tasks such as space data management, asset tracking, and occupancy planning. These tools enable organisations to make informed decisions about office layouts and capacity planning.
The adoption of reporting tools like Microsoft Power BI and Tableau has increased by 48% for space-utilisation analysis. These platforms allow for near-real-time actionable insights, helping organisations optimise office space and identify possibilities for cost-cutting measures.

Over 65% of organisations identify improving workplace experience as a significant goal. Technologies such as space-reservation systems have seen a 24-percentage-point increase in adoption, reflecting the developments in modern work patterns ,including hybrid and remote work.

Areas for growth

Despite the current interest in AI, 36% of respondents are unaware of how AI is used in their workplace management, and 26% are not authorised to use it. This indicates a substantial opportunity for organisations to integrate these tools into facility management.

Only 11% of organisations currently use Building Information Modeling, primarily for construction coordination and design visualisation. The low adoption rate suggests potential for growth and indicates a need for more cost-effective solutions.

While 77% of organisations have some level of technology maturity, none have achieved the highest level (Level 5). Adopting best practices in advancing to higher technology levels can unlock underutilised potential.

Still early

The integration of AI and advanced technologies in workplace management is still in an early stage in the industry. By adopting these tools, organisations can enhance efficiency, improve employee experiences, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving work environment.
